Defining Sphere Data

New sphere data must be provided in a spreadsheet constructed like the following example. The Free Fields should be formatted within the restrictions of the available attribute types.

Note that if you have no data in a column, the system will ignore this with the following exceptions. You must have:

bullet

an entry in either the Struc(ture) Sequence or the Struc(ture) Level column for every row;

bullet

an entry in the Struc(ture) Name for every row.

Facilities provided in the import mechanism include the ability to generate short headers (used in matrices and reports) if they are not provided and the ability to generate either sequence codes for unsequenced items (based on the last available sequence) or level numbers based on the format of the sequence code. For more information see Sequence Codes.

Importing Sphere Data

The steps to be taken when you wish to import sphere item data from an external spreadsheet are:

bullet

Create the spreadsheet as defined above

bullet

Populate the spreadsheet either directly or by transfer from existing data

bullet

Import the spreadsheet using the spreadsheet selector

bullet

Review the data and transfer it to the desired sphere using the sphere data import form

Defining Relation Data

New relations data must be provided in a spreadsheet constructed like the following example. The Free Fields should be formatted within the restrictions of the available attribute types. At present relations data can only be imported to a pre-defined relationship.

Facilities provided in the import mechanism include the ability to calculate the levels for relations for which they are not specified and to insert the B to A Relation value based on the A to B value.
